It was Friday night and the Francis Howell Middle School (FHMS) classrooms were dark, but sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students filled the gymnasium, lecture room and cafeteria. The occasion was the school’s second Activity Night of the year – an event designed to promote friendship and healthy activities, but also to support a good cause.  Admission to the event was a box of crayons – an unusual request unless you know that the school recently accepted a donation of 4,000 coloring books from HDA Publishing of St. Louis. Those coloring books and the more than 500 boxes of crayons collected during Activity Night will soon be on their way to Haiti in a cargo container courtesy of Ambassadors for Christ in Haiti (ACH).

The financial outlook for the District continues to worsen as reflected in recent newspaper articles.  We all need to gain a better understanding of how the local, state, and national economy is affecting our District’s financial situation. 

The District website now has a dedicated section called State of the District where we will post regular updates on our financial situation to help keep you informed and provide a place for feedback from staff and community members.

Francis Howell Parents As Teachers held their 14^th annual Read-In on March 6, 2010, at Meadows Parkway. The theme for the day was “Celebrating the World Around Us through Non-Fiction Books”.

Did you know that our school's funding is determined by the census count? If we don't get counted, we don't get our share of tax dollars. Many decisions are made with the information from the census including the amount of funding given to our schools, public transportation, road and community improvements, public health services, and neighborhood improvements.

Parent-Teacher Conferences are a valuable resource in the education of your child. During conferences, the teacher and parent/guardian have the opportunity to communicate valuable information that will help the student throughout their education. Parents, your active participation is essential! Working with your child’s teacher is one of the first steps in helping your child achieve academic success. Communication between home and school is one of the best ways to ensure that your child’s school experience is a successful one.
