Francis Howell School District Wins International Award for Budget Excellence

For the fourth consecutive year, the Francis Howell School District has received the Meritorious Budget Award for excellence in budget preparation and presentation from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International.

The award was for the 2009-10 budget, prepared by Kevin Supple, Chief Financial Officer, with assistance from Cindy Reilmann, Director of Finance and the finance department staff. The 2009-10 budget, at over 200 pages, contains not only the official budget, but also background information on the District and summary materials. The budget data is presented via narratives, charts, and graphs to aid in understanding. All material is prepared to ensure that both the Board of Education and the public have complete information as they discuss and make crucial decisions on programming and staffing for the coming year. Virtually hundreds of hours go into the final document.

The Meritorious Budget Award is only conferred to school systems that have met or exceeded the Meritorious Budget Award Program criteria. No other organization or award program is specifically designed to enhance school budgeting and honor a school system for a job well done. “I am proud to be associated with such an outstanding school district,” says Supple. “This award is positive recognition of our department’s mission statement, which is to effectively manage District resources to support student learning.”

The Meritorious Budget Awards Program was designed by ASBO International and school business management professionals to enable school business administration to achieve excellence in budget presentation. The program helps school systems build a solid foundation in the skills of developing, analyzing, and presenting a budget.

The Association of School Business Officials International, founded in 1910, promotes the highest standards of school business management practices, professional growth, and the effective use of educational resources.
