FHC Holds Inaugural Commitment to Our Country Signing Day

The schools in the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) honor students who will take the next step in their academic and athletic careers, with each high school hosting their own signing days for those committing to their respective collegiate institutions. In addition to those signing ceremonies, Francis Howell Central (FHC) High School wanted to honor students, who are signing up to join branches of the military and are making a commitment to serve their country. These students will dedicate their time and talents over the next few years keeping our country safe and free.

“We would like to take an opportunity to celebrate and honor the Francis Howell Central seniors who have committed to join one of the United States Military Branches after graduation,” said FHC Activities Director Scott Harris. “This was very similar to our ‘Signing Days’ for our student-athletes who will continue their education and play a sport at the college level after graduation.”

With Armed Forces Day being celebrated across the nation just days later, the timing was perfect to celebrate the continuation of bravery and vigilance that is the hallmark of the United States military branches. “This gives us a chance to honor them and their families, and thank them for dedicating their lives in service to our country.”

The least the average citizen can do is thank a veteran for their service – and it doesn’t have to be on Veterans Day. If you know a veteran, please take a moment to thank them for their sacrifices. If you see one of the FHC students listed below, please thank them for being brave and signing up to keep our country free.

The ceremony took place in the Howell Central Auditorium on Wednesday, May 17. The ceremony featured a group photo and then individual photos with the student and his or her family members. Click here to view the photo gallery.
