Fairmount Adds New Administrative Intern

The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) recently announced the addition of Dr. Callista Kostine as the new administrative intern at Fairmount Elementary School. Dr. Kostine will assist the administrative team at Fairmount to ensure school safety and student success, and help deliver professional leadership to organize, administer, and provide support for a creative school program.

Skilled in facilitating academic achievement, Dr. Kostine seeks to enhance students’ academic, social, and moral advancement. A strategic educator, Dr. Kostine lives for instituting exceptional learning programs to better serve students and their future.

“I am thrilled to be a member of the Francis Howell School District,” Dr. Kostine said, “and look forward to supporting the culture of academic excellence and community collaboration at Fairmont Elementary School.”

Dr. Kostine certainly brings experience to FHSD, having served as the principal of Hillsboro Primary School, in Hillsboro, Missouri, since 2011, and served in administration there since 2003. As assistant principal of Hillsboro, she facilitated school-level Response to Intervention (RTI), Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS), Leadership, and Discipline Handbook committees. Dr. Kostine also instituted transparent communication channels, developing collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, and the community. She improved student learning and advancement by establishing a tutoring program based on benchmark data.

The past couple years as principal highlighted Dr. Kostine’s leadership abilities. During her tenure as principal at Hillsboro, the school reduced discipline referral rates from from 6.21% to 2.5% (in less than three years). She designed strategic professional development opportunities to help teachers and staff achieve school improvement goals. Dr. Kostine also sees the value in parental involvement, providing opportunities for community decision-making in school activities, and establishing the Parent Advisory Council and the Guardian Hawks PTO. In addition, she led an initiative to secure a grant for $120,000 from the Jefferson Memorial Community Foundation, which was used to improve the safety and accessibility of the school playground. Under her leadership and PBIS development, Hillsboro Primary earned a PBIS Gold Exemplar School honor from DESE in 2015 and 2016 (Silver in 2014 and Bronze in 2012 and 2013).

Dr. Kostine has worked diligently to improve at her educational craft, earning a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Missouri Baptist College in 2000, a master’s degree in Elementary School Administration from Southeast Missouri State University in 2004, and her doctorate in education from Saint Louis University in 2010. Her professional certifications include: Crisis Prevention (CPI), non-violent crisis intervention; Elementary Education, Grades 1-6 Career CPC; Principal, K-8 Transition Administration; and Superintendent, K-12 Initial Administration.

Dr. Kostine is just another example of the kind of high-quality, dedicated teachers, administrators, and staff that have made FHSD one of the best districts in Missouri.
