FHSD Celebrates National School Lunch Week

Posted on 10/05/2017

More than 20,000 meals are served to Francis Howell School District students every day. Eating a healthy and nutritious school lunch is essential to helping students get the most out of their action-packed day. So join the Francis Howell School District in celebrating National School Lunch Week, Oct. 9-13, 2017.

Research shows that good nutrition enables students to meet their educational and physical potential. However, it's the people in the kitchens that really make the state's food programs work. FHSD is proud to partner with Sodexo to provide the students of our District with proper nutrition, clean facilities, and friendly support.

“Students that are well nourished are healthier and more alert in class,” said Carl Ventimiglia, Sodexo General
Manager. “By offering students healthy options, with more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and less fat and sodium, the school lunch program is helping our students develop good food habits.”

National School Lunch Week emphasizes nutritionally balanced, healthy meals that are offered in FHSD. All meals served follow federal guidelines set forth by the National School Lunch Program, which requires schools to offer fruits and vegetables daily, serve whole-grain-rich foods, and limit fat, calories, and sodium in the meals they serve.
