Posted on 05/09/2012
Jake Henson, senior baseball player at Francis Howell Central (FHC) High School has been selected to participate in the 2012 PNC High School Baseball Showcase, sponsored by PNC Bank.

Henson will be honored at a Congratulatory Breakfast, which will take place at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown St. Louis on Sunday June 17. After the breakfast celebration, Henson and the other players will be recognized before the St. Louis Cardinals versus the Kansas City Royals baseball game at Busch Stadium. Henson will be recognized on the field during a pre-game ceremony at 1:15 p.m.

Following the Congratulatory Breakfast Henson will then have the opportunity to showcase his athletic abilities in the Skills Challenge at 10:00 a.m. and the Showcase Game at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, June 18 at Busch Stadium. Henson and the other players will compete in three challenges from the following categories: throwing accuracy, home run derby, and speed. To measure throwing accuracy players will throw from center field from home plate and will gain points based on where the ball lands in the infield. The home run derby will consist of each player receiving three warm-up swings and seven actual swings and each player will be judged according to how far each ball is closest to a home-run. To assess speed, all players will be timed in a 60-yard dash. The winners of each challenge will be based on a point system.

To kick off the recognition, Henson will be featured and interviewed in a live broadcast on Thursday, May 10 at Buffalo Wild Wings in Kirkwood beginning at 6:00 p.m. The interview will highlight all selected players from the St. Louis area and the baseball showcase.
