Save on School Supplies during the Sales Tax Holiday
Posted on 07/06/2012
Once again, teachers and parents can benefit from Missouri's sales tax holiday for certain back-to-school purchases such as clothing, supplies and computers. The sales tax holiday is Friday, August 3, through Sunday, August 5.

The sales tax exemption is limited to:
  • Clothing - any article having a taxable value of $100 or less
  • School supplies - not to exceed $50 per purchase
  • Computer software - taxable value of $350 or less
  • Personal computers - not to exceed $3,500
  • Computer peripheral devices - not to exceed $3,500
Cities have the option to participate; eligible items purchased in those cities will be exempt from all sales taxes. Back-to-school purchases at businesses in non-participating communities will still be exempt from state and county sales taxes, but city taxes will still apply.

Neighboring cities participating in the Back to School Sales Tax Holiday include:
  • Chesterfield
  • Cottleville
  • Hazelwood
  • Lake St. Louis
  • Maryland Heights
  • O’Fallon
  • St. Charles
  • Troy
  • Warrenton
  • Wentzville
