Envision Math 2.0 Middle School Program

Beginning in the 2016-17 school year, the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) implemented a new middle school math program called enVision Math. The new math program provides increased rigor and meets the needs of high achieving students, as well as those students who need additional time and support. As with the change to any academic programming, the new math program was aligned to FHSD and the Missouri state standards.

In anticipation of the new program adoption, over twenty FHSD middle school teachers spent the 2015-16 school year researching and piloting programs to choose the best resource for teaching mathematics to middle school students. FHSD teachers’ work and research culminated in a math selection that they believe will meet the learning needs of our students and teaching needs of our teachers. The enVision math 2.0 program was selected and board approved as our new middle school math program. The enVision math 2.0 program provides a coherent and comprehensive pathway to algebra that ensures all students are college- and career-ready when they graduate from high school. The program emphasizes on ratio and proportional reasoning, number sense, expressions and equations, leading to an understanding of functions and linearity. These concepts are revisited to show interconnectedness at each grade level. This program is an extension of the elementary enVision math program. With this adoption, FHSD now has a comprehensive K- 8 mathematics program.

As the District transitions to the new program and materials, parents may hear their child talk about the following:

  • Videos and/or interactive technology lessons that support their math work
  • Student materials that are accessible at home
  • Hands-on situations and real-world types of problems that will help students develop a deeper understanding of math and reasoning concepts
  • Journal activities that will help students develop critical thinking and writing skills

To help parents understand the change in the math materials, five Math Parent Information Nights will be conducted at each middle school in the District. A Frequently Asked Questions flyer is available from our Parent Math Information Nights.  It includes information about the enVision Math program and its set-up, its relationship to the standards, and the online components available to students and parents.
