SEGA Identification Process

Students who meet the qualifications for the gifted program in the Francis Howell School District, and have a full scale IQ score in the 99th percentile or above will be referred for the SEGA program by the building Gifted Education Specialist.

Referred students will be given a standardized achievement test in multiple academic areas.  Most students who qualify for SEGA score 2 standard deviations above grade level in at least two of the three subtests given. Anecdotal information from the parents, classroom teacher and Gifted Education Specialist may be utilized to determine a child’s strengths, but is not a deciding factor in program placement.

Students selected to participate in the program will be placed in SEGA at the beginning of the following school year for a one-year probationary period to assure that the program best fits the needs of the student.
