Supporting Success – Paraprofessional and Interpreter Appreciation Day

Paraprofessionals and interpreters are imperative to the success of not only the student, but also the teacher. Without them, students and teachers wouldn’t receive the assistance they need to get the best out of each class. To honor our invaluable paraprofessionals and interpreters, the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) is joining others around the nation on April 5, 2017, to show our appreciation for the classroom professionals who help students and teachers in classrooms across the country every day.

The future of our country’s children depends on the quality of the education they receive, and paraprofessionals and interpreters play an important part in the success of our education system. Their role is constantly evolving, as they meet a myriad of challenges, from assisting in grading, to supervising a field trip, to working with students with special needs. Interpreters are more and more necessary to the classroom in an increasingly global society, offering a fair chance to students and parents whom we’ve welcomed into our communities from countries where English isn’t the predominant language.

If your child has not worked with a paraprofessional or interpreter, you may not be aware of what these dedicated people do to help students in the classroom. There are many roles that they fulfill including:

  • Providing one-on-one tutoring (for those who qualify)
  • Assisting with classroom management
  • Providing assistance in a computer lab, library, or media center
  • Holding/completing parent involvement activities
  • Implementing behavior management plans
  • Modifying materials
  • Acting as a translator
  • Providing instructional services, under the supervision of a teacher

On April 5, join us in celebrating these education professional for all their hard work and dedication to the children they serve. If your child works with a paraprofessional or interpreter, please take the opportunity to thank them for helping your child in the classroom.
