FHSD National Signing Day

FHSD National Signing Day

Wednesday, February 1, 2017, is National Signing Day, the first day that a high school senior can sign a binding National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play NCAA football. In the Francis Howell School District (FHSD), it is a day to honor the student-athletes in all sports as they prepare for the next step in their academic and athletic careers. Signing a NLI is all about commitment – the future commitment to play a sport at the collegiate level, as well as the past commitment that has provided this opportunity for high school students.

At Francis Howell High School (FHHS), 20 student-athletes took part in the National Signing Day celebration. “It’s something that starts when you’re a little kid, you have those dreams and aspirations of playing at the college level, and today is that culminating event,” said FHHS Activities Director Sean Erwin. “All of these student-athletes have both that academic and athletic piece; these 20 students have a cumulative GPA of 3.63.”

Senior Bridget Schulte will play golf next year for Missouri State University. She says signing is the culmination of a lot of hard work. “A lot of practice, a lot of work over the summer, playing in tournaments, getting ready to get out there and show colleges what you can do. So it takes a lot of time, but it’s fun and definitely worth it at the end of the process.”

At Francis Howell North (FHN), ten students have committed to play sports at the next level, including three NCAA Division I schools. The students who signed have a cumulative 3.48 GPA. Among the outstanding student-athletes signing from FHN, State Diving Champion and Missouri Diver of the Year, Peter Lucido, will be going to the University of Missouri-Columbia. “I’m really excited to go to Mizzou,” Lucido said. “The coach there is really great. It’ll be nice being close to home, but far enough away.” And he’ll miss his days of walking the halls of FHN. “It’s been a good trip,” he said. “It’s a great school.”

At Francis Howell Central (FHC), there were eight student-athletes who signed letters of intent. Micah Skebo will be taking his outstanding football talents to Washburn University, and his father, Bob Skebo, was there to see him sign on the dotted line. "We couldn't be more proud of Micah," he said. "It just shows that hard work and responsibility will pay off. It's true in his games and in his academics."

Congratulations to all of the FHSD students who will be competing next year at the college level.
