Francis Howell School District teachers, Lorri Richardson and Carl Wayne
join a select group of St. Louis area teachers chosen to receive the Emerson
Electric Company Excellence in Teaching Award. This award recognizes
teachers for their passion for teaching, their impact on student learning,
and their knowledge and creativity in the classroom. The recipients are
chosen for their outstanding contributions to the teaching profession and to
the students they teach. Lorri Richardson teaches special education at Bryan Middle School. She enjoys being a special education teacher because it allows her to work with students who have diverse learning needs and to get to know her students on a more personal level. Richardson received her B.S. in Special Education in 1994 and master in Learning Disabilities in 1999, both from the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). Richardson began teaching in the Francis Howell School District in 1994, split between Barnwell Middle School and Francis Howell Middle School (FHMS). She remained at FHMS until Bryan Middle School opened in 1998. She is now in her tenth year at Bryan. Carl Wayne is a teacher at Francis Howell High School where he teaches social studies. Wayne graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2004 with a B.S. in Education and a B.A. in History. Wayne began his career in education with the Francis Howell School District in the fall of 2004. Now in his fifth year of teaching, Wayne teaches Honors American History, American History, and CWC World History. He also serves as the Instructional Technology Specialist helping teachers with their technology needs and providing new ways to utilize technology in classroom instruction. Wayne is also the Head Boys' Golf Coach and Assistant Girls' Softball Coach at Francis Howell High School. Both teachers will be recognized at an awards ceremony along with other local public, private, parochial and college educators in November at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Clayton. The Excellence in Teaching Awards are sponsored by Emerson Electric, the diversified global manufacturer headquartered in St. Louis. Participation in the annual Emerson Excellence in Teaching Awards recognition program is open to all educational institutions in the St. Louis metropolitan area. |
