Enrolling a Student in the FHSD
To enroll a student in the FHSD, call the school in your attendance
area and make an appointment for registration. The student and
parent/guardian must reside within the FHSD boundaries.
Student and Parent/Guardian Documents Required for FHSD Registration
- A Birth Certificate
- Proof of Residency
- Proof of Parent/Guardian identity and relationship to student
- Emergency telephone numbers
- Additional information, as necessary
- IEP and evaluation if student is receiving Special Education
Services
- Unofficial transcript or recent Report Card
- Custody papers
Student Screening
The FHSD recommends that all children be screened after age three and
prior to entering kindergarten. This screening examines three areas of
development: motor, concepts and language. The children will also have
an opportunity for vision and hearing screenings. There is no cost for
this screening. The entire process – screening and parent conferences –
takes one to one and a half hours. To make an appointment to have your
child screened, please call one of the Early Childhood Family
Education Centers: Hackmann Road, 851-6200; Central School Road,
851-6400 or Meadows Parkway, 851-6000. Appointment hours are
Monday through Friday beginning at 8:30am. Saturday and evening
screenings are available.
Kindergarten Students
Any child whose fifth birthday occurs before August 1st is eligible
to attend Kindergarten during that same calendar year. First Grade
Students
Any child whose sixth birthday occurs before August 1st is eligible
to attend First Grade during that same calendar year. Students who
have completed public school Kindergarten in Kansas City or a
St. Louis Metropolitan Area School District are eligible to
attend First Grade. Students who have completed public school
Kindergarten outside the State of Missouri are eligible to
attend First Grade. Students who have completed public an
accredited Kindergarten program are eligible to attend First
Grade. Students who have attended an unaccredited school or
home instructional program are not permanently placed in a grade
until appropriate evaluation is made.
