Bus Stop Criteria

• All bus routes and stops are approved by the Francis Howell Board of Education.
• Students must ride the same bus to and from school daily.
• Bus routes and stops may change from year to year based upon student population or demographics.
• Depending upon route structure and time schedule, students may have to walk two or three blocks to the bus stop.
• Generally, buses will not travel down cul-de-sacs that are less than one half mile long.
• Visibility from a student’s home to the bus stop is considered but is not required.
• Bus stops should be located with clear visibility for 500 feet in both directions.
• In residential areas with speed limits less than 35 mph stops are not located within 100 feet of each other.
• In residential areas with speed limits exceeding 35 mph stops are not located within 300 feet of each other.
• Missouri state law requires that the school districts provide transportation for all students who reside more than 3.5 miles from school.
• For questions concerning bus routes and stops, call the district’s contracted bus service at 636-441-7654.
