FHSD MAP Performance

The students in the Francis Howell School District typically score above the state average on most subject areas of the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP). The district was recognized as “Accredited with Distinction for Improvement” in 2001, 2002 and 2003. This distinction was due in large part to improved performance on the MAP over time.

MAP Achievement Rating Scale

Communication Arts, Math and Science will be reported according to four achievement levels.  Parents receive an achievement report in the fall for the test(s) their student took in the spring of the previous school year. The student report informs the parent of their student’s overall results in the subject tested.  Students in grades 5 & 8 will test in science and the social studies test will not be administered.

MA & CA test will be given in grades 3-8.  High school students will begin taking End of Course (EOC) assessments during the 2008-09 school year.  Biology, Algebra I and English II will be given this year with more added in 2009-10.

MAP Performance Index (MPI)

The MAP Performance Index (MPI) is a calculated score that indicates progress over time moving students to higher levels of achievement on the MAP. The MPI is calculated by multiplying the percent of students scoring at each level of the MAP by a weighted factor:

      4 Achievement Levels
Below Basic = X 6
Basic = X 7
Proficient = X 8
Advanced = X 9
Total = Index Points

  Communication Arts   Mathematics
  Grade(s) High 1 Target
(5 yr avg)
  Grade(s) High 1 Target
(5 yr avg)
  3-5 768-900   3-5 762-900
  6-8 764-900   6-8 764-900
  11 759-900   10 756-900

The state determines a high target for a grade level and subject area. A school and ultimately the district’s goal is to meet or surpass this target.
