Assignment of Students to Schools

Assignment of students to schools is based upon attendance areas established by the Board. The following provisions indicate exceptions to school assignments by attendance area.

  1. Siblings of students who participate in District wide special education programs may attend the school where the program is located.
     
  2. Children of regular employees residing in the District may attend the school where the custodial parent is assigned.
     
  3. Children of regular employees residing outside the District may attend the school where the custodial parent is assigned. Approval is based upon available space.

a. Available space in the elementary schools is defined as three (3) students below the class maximum as shown below.

   
  K through 2 25  
  3 and 4 27  
  5 28  

b. Middle and high school students will be placed into programming based upon normal enrollment procedures and processes.

c. Requests for variation in the above policies may be submitted in writing to the  Enrollment Planning Manager, Francis Howell School District.

  1. Children whose parents/guardians move from one school attendance area to another during the fourth quarter may complete the semester at either school.
     
  2. Students in dire circumstances and presented with obstacles sufficient to impair success at the school in their attendance area may request a boundary exception. (Regulation 2510).
     
  3. Transportation will not be provided by the District for students to, or from, Day Care providers who are located outside a student’s assigned attendance area. Parents, guardians and/or students are responsible for transportation to and from these Day Care providers.
