Firecrackers Program
“Children differ in their experiences and background,
so the curriculum must be adapted for those who are “ahead” as well as
those who need additional time and help.” National Association for the
Education of Young Children.
Firecrackers:
To help meet the needs of all children the Spectra program will continue
the "Firecrackers" program. The Firecrackers program is an extension
program designed for kindergarten students who are ahead of their class
peers. This program will provide young learners with more challenging
creative and critical thinking opportunities.
Early Childhood Component:
Together early childhood and gifted education will help the children
remain challenged into developing their true potential throughout their
school years.
The Francis Howell School District is a Pre K – 12 school district. In
the past year the Spectra program has collaborated with the early
childhood program to provide for high ability preschool children. The
main goal of the collaboration is to meet the needs of high ability
children in our district. The early childhood faculty continues to
increase their awareness of the needs and identification of high ability
children, increase knowledge of resources for parents and staff, and
improve the transition of high ability children into kindergarten.
