Students with Exceptionally
Gifted Abilities
The aim of the SEGA (Students with Exceptional Gifted Abilities)
program is to provide a challenging and rigorous curriculum with
academic acceleration for the exceptionally gifted learner. The program
provides interventions for exceptionally gifted students in grades
(2-8). The Francis Howell School District recognizes that these students
require an academic curriculum, educational experiences, and attention
to affective needs above and beyond that of the regular Gifted
Educational program. Participation in the SEGA program allows students
to achieve at a level commensurate with their abilities and interests
while integrating within an appropriate peer group. The elementary SEGA
students are homogeneously grouped together for the entire core
curriculum.
Because the Elementary SEGA student is academically advanced, many of
the students attend classes at the middle school (usually in math or
science). The SEGA students attend regular classes for all special area
classes (art, music, and PE) as well as lunch and recess. In middle
school, the SEGA students attend SEGA classes for Communication Arts and
Social Studies. Due to their academic advancement the students
frequently attend classes at the high school.
