Parents as Teachers

Personalized family visits with a Parent Educator trained in child development are provided to help you give your child a great beginning. Parents value this resource for the information provided on activities that encourage their child’s development and for the opportunity to observe and discuss their child’s development.

Group Connections provide parents an opportunity to gain developmental information about their child and discuss development with other parents who have children the same age. The meetings also allow parents to socialize with other parents in their school district.

Toilet Learning 101: Encouraging Independence with Confidence

• What is the right time to start the toilet learning process? The reality is that the
  right time is different for every child. Join us for a presentation discussing readiness
  skills for toileting. We will also discuss some common problems associated with the
  toilet learning process.
• Ages: 18 months old up to kindergarten entry

• Join Parents As Teachers for a fun-filled hour of reading and DOGS! The St. Charles
  County Chapter of Love on a Leash will be at the Parents As Teachers Family
  Education Center to lend an ear while families enjoy an hour of literacy together.
• Only dogs with the Love on a Leash organization will be permitted at this event. Space limited - registration required!
• Ages: 2 years old up to kindergarten entry (Parent/child activity)

Screenings are provided to assess language, personal-social, intellectual and motor development. Hearing and vision screenings are available. The goal of the screenings is to provide parents with information on the individual growth of their child and the early detection of potential problems that may affect later learning.

Developmental Screening Information

• Children Under Age 3: Screenings are conducted in the home by a certified parent educator on a PAT home visit.
• Children Age 3 and Older: A DIAL developmental screening is completed at our PAT Family Education Center.
