Learning Commons

Francis Howell School District is partnering with the St. Charles City-County Library to provide students with virtual library cards. These cards give students 24/7 access to digital resources, such as audiobooks, eBooks, and research databases.

Benefits for students:

• Access to the public library’s expansive collection of learning resources
• Students can easily check out audiobooks & eBooks, and educators know how to assist them
• Digital items are automatically returned, so no fees for lost items
• Audiobooks and eBooks meet the needs of students that require reading support
• Students can borrow up to 5 physical items from the public library at a time

Information for parents:

• Parents are responsible for monitoring their child's usage of the public library’s resources
• Parents can assist their child with checking out audiobooks & eBooks
• For new students, parents can easily sign up their child for the virtual public library card when enrolling through Infinite Campus.
• During the school year, parents have the choice to opt their child in or out by notifying the school Library Media Specialist or completing the opt-in/opt-out form. 
• Students who already have a physical library card can still use their virtual library card to access public library’s resources.

The FHSD Learning Commons has a broad selection of books, in print and online, available for checkout. You may see what we have to offer by clicking on the "Learning Commons" tab on your school’s web page and then selecting "Find a Book." Destiny Discover, our library management system, allows you to search the collection by entering specific book titles, authors, or topics.

Students can log in to the Destiny Discover website with their AD credentials.

Students can also log in to Destiny Discover by clicking the "Destiny Library" link in their Canvas courses.  No additional password information is required once a student is logged in to Canvas.

How do I find what books are available in the library? Visit Destiny Discover.

In some buildings, Chromebooks and Mobile Hotspots can be borrowed from the Learning Commons.  Permission forms are required.

FHSD Learning Commons (school libraries) have a broad selection of books, in print and online, available for students to check out.  See what our school libraries have to offer by clicking on the "Learning Commons" tab on your school’s web page and then selecting "Find a Book".  Destiny Discover, our library management system, allows users to search the collection by entering specific book titles, authors or topics.

There are two ways for families to see the books their children have checked out:

OPTION 1:

Log in to Destiny with your student’s Active Directory (AD) credentials to view items currently checked out.  

Students can also log in to Destiny Discover by clicking the "Destiny Library" link in their Canvas courses. No additional password information is required once a student is logged in to Canvas.

OPTION 2:

Request a daily email letting you know what books a student has checked out at the end of each day.  If interested in receiving a daily email of the books your child has checked out of the FHSD Learning Commons, complete this form: Student Library Book Check-Out Form.

The emails will start to be generated no later than two (2) weeks after submission, depending on the volume of requests received. Please note that the daily email will reflect the books a student has checked out at the end of a school day. If no items are currently checked out on a student account, an email will not be generated that school day.

According to District Policy 6341 Regulation 6341, any resident or employee may formally challenge materials in the District’s Learning Commons if they find them to be obscene, pervasively vulgar, or lacking educational suitability. To report a concern, please first contact the building principal where the material is kept. If the issue cannot be resolved informally, please complete the form below and submit it to the Superintendent of Schools.
