FHSD Celebrates Custodian and Maintenance Week

After the final bell sounds, after the last locker closes shut, and the last school bus rolls off the parking lot, that’s when a special group of people goes to work in the Francis Howell School District (FHSD). Then it’s time for our diligent custodians and maintenance workers to roll up their sleeves to ensure a safe, clean and fully-functional learning and working environment for all FHSD students, teachers and staff.

FHSD would not be the great District it is today without their efforts. That’s why this week, we are celebrating these indispensable workers during Custodian and Maintenance Week.

“From shiny floors to trimmed lawns and snow removal, our custodial and maintenance staff work hard to keep our facilities clean and safe,” said FHSD Superintendent Dr. Mary Hendricks-Harris. “Day in and day out, they work tirelessly to make sure that Francis Howell is a great place to learn, teach and work. They are vital members of the Francis Howell community.”

Manager of Custodial and Warehouse Operations Jim Nilges said he is thrilled about the recognition.

“The facilities team truly is a ‘team’ and their individual and collective effort is evident by the positive results and the positive feedback we receive,” Nilges said. “They’re an amazing group of people and are driven by their desire to provide the best customer service to the FHSD family.”

FHSD is proud of its custodians and maintenance crew, and is thankful for the hours they spend every day keeping our buildings and grounds immaculately clean as well as quickly repairing anything that might be broken – from flooring, mechanical equipment, all the way up to our roofs.

While the work they do is already at a high level, Nilges said his priority during the upcoming school year is to be 100 percent staffed with quality and qualified custodians as well as to continue to promote a safe, healthy and harmonious work environment.

Lastly, he said he has one specific goal on his list: “I want to smile more… smiles are contagious,” he said.

Join us in recognizing all of our custodians and maintenance workers this week by letting them know how much everything they do is appreciated.
