Angel Ikeda may already be a star to the Francis Howell Central (FHC) High School community, but on Oct. 15 her stardom was shared with a much larger community. During The St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame annual awards banquet, Ikeda was announced as one of four students in the metro area to receive prestigious recognition as a St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame “Future Star.”

Ikeda2In what may be the biggest night of the year for St. Louis Soccer, the organization inducted their new Hall of Fame class, and also looked ahead to the future of St. Louis soccer.

“Angel displays unbelievable toughness as a soccer player,” said her coach, Derek Phillips. “She is strong in the air and on tackles defensively, and has the drive and work-rate it takes to compete at a high level.”

Ikeda has been a three-year starter at Howell Central and a key member of teams who finished second in Districts (when she was a freshman), Class 4 State Runner-up (as a sophomore), and Class 4 State Quarterfinals for the first time in program history (as a junior). She was awarded second-team All-Conference honors last year and first team All-Conference this year. She was also made the Class Four All-Regional, All-Metro, and All-State teams in 2016. Ikeda won Best Performance Goal by STL Today in 2016. Her FHC awards include Best Defensive Player in 2014, and Most Improved Player in 2015 and 2016.

Ikeda has worn the captain’s armband for the Lou Fusz Soccer Club since 2014, a team that is currently ranked third in the state. As team captain of FHC, Ikeda hopes she and her teammates can build on their outstanding success of last year when they open up the season next spring.

“We hope to have another strong season heading into the spring with the girls,” Coach Phillips said. “We graduated some quality players, but are looking forward to having some others step up.”

Ikeda is also a member of the Howell Central Girls’ Tennis team that captured the first team District title in school history in early October, and advanced to the Class 2 State Quarterfinals.
