FHSD Celebrates National School Counseling Week

During the week of Feb. 6-10, 2017, the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) will celebrate all the school counselors who help shape students’ lives during National School Counseling Week. This special week highlights the unique contribution of professional school counselors within school districts and the impact they have helping students achieve success.

Working in partnership with parents and teachers, counselors focus on positive ways to enhance students' social, personal, educational, and career development. They encourage interpersonal skills, responsible behavior, and implement programs to promote academic success. At the secondary level, counselors begin to focus on career development and post-secondary goals.

For students, just having someone who takes the time to learn about them, and takes an interest in their future, can mean everything. Counselors work with students, listen to their ideals and goals, and can help them decide their best course of action. And more than anything, just having someone who cares about children and their future can change a life for the better.

“Our counselors are not just making schedule changes,” said Dr. Mary Hendricks-Harris, FHSD Superintendent. “They are taking a proactive approach and working tirelessly to help our students prepare for the next steps in their education or career.”

Please take a moment during National Counseling Week to celebrate FHSD’s counselors and express your thanks to these dedicated professionals.
