Dr. Julie Tiemeyer Named New Fairmount Elementary Assistant Principal

The career of Dr. Julie Tiemeyer is one illustrated by innovation. A member of the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) since starting her career in education, Dr. Tiemeyer has brought new ideas to every building she has worked in, and continues to be a leading innovator in the District. After accomplishing so much as administrative intern at Fairmount Elementary, Dr. Tiemeyer was an easy choice as the school’s new assistant principal.

“As Fairmount’s new assistant principal,” Tiemeyer said, “my goal is to be an asset to the teachers and students here and help them grow in the area of both academic achievement and personal growth. I plan to be a team player and help support the phenomenal administrators and teachers here at Fairmount. I am very excited to start this new chapter of my educational career with Fairmount as my new home and community. I was welcomed with open arms by the Fairmount community as the past administrative intern, and I look forward to helping Fairmount move forward into the future of learning!”

Dr. Tiemeyer started teaching first grade at Independence Elementary in 2004-05. Then she moved to Central Elementary, and for the next ten years, she brought innovation to her first and third grade classrooms. She quickly became a leader among her peers, serving on multiple committees, as well as serving as a Professional learning Communities (PLC) coach, Education Department Chair, and Technology Committee Administrator. She also earned her National Board Certification in 2011.

At every stop in her career, Dr. Tiemeyer has placed great value on collaboration between teachers and administrators, helping bridge the gap to improve student and school success. Whether she’s improving safety and efficiency in the cafeteria and parent drop-off areas or working with Education Department Chairs, Dr. Tiemeyer has always sought best practices through collaboration.

Dr. Tiemeyer is also an innovator when it comes to technology. While serving as administrative intern at Fairmount, she oversaw attendance. After analyzing data, she worked with the attendance committee on resolutions and practices to improve school attendance. Her solution was to create an Attendance Watch google form to track attendance communication to families. Dr. Tiemeyer has also used similar methods to track behavior communication to teachers, and to monitor student progress.

Dr. Tiemeyer has worked diligently to share her insights with her peers in order to improve teaching practices around the District, offering her tutelage at FHSD professional development days such as Tech FEST. Dr. Tiemeyer has been a lynchpin for various FHSD committees, including the District Technology Committee and the 21st Century Learning Committee.

One of her most recent innovations was Fairmount’s family night in February, “Star Tech” Night. More than 200 students attended this Star Wars-themed technology extravaganza, along with their families.
