COVID-19 Protocols for Students

COVID-19 Protocols Guidance for Students

PLEASE NOTE: These scenarios may be adapted for individual circumstances or to align with new health department guidance.

Scenario 01
Student is confirmed positive

IMMEDIATELY ISOLATE
Stay home for a minimum of 10 calendar days after symptom onset or positive test collection, whichever is later. Return to school upon release by a designated school official.

Scenario 02
A family member in the student's home is confirmed positive or quarantined

IF FAMILY MEMBER IS CONFIRMED POSITIVE... IMMEDIATELY QUARANTINE
Stay home and quarantine for 14 calendar days after last exposure.

IF FAMILY MEMBER IS QUARANTINED ... COME TO SCHOOL
If a family member in the student's home is quarantined because they were in close contact with an infected person (but the family member has not tested positive), student should continue coming to school.

Scenario 03
A classmate is confirmed positive

IF CLASSMATE WAS A "CLOSE CONTACT"... MODIFIED OR STANDARD QUARANTINE
A "close contact" is any individual who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes during their infectious period. If exposure happened in the K-12 school setting and both parties were properly masked, student will be placed in Modified Quarantine and should continue to report to school, but quarantine at all other times for 14 calendar days after last exposure. If one or both parties were unmasked at the time of exposure - or if exposure happened outside the school setting, regardless of mask usage - Standard Quarantine will apply. Stay home and do not report to school for a minimum 14 calendar days after last exposure

IF CLASSMATE WAS A "CONTACT"... COME TO SCHOOL
"Contact" means student was in the same room or general vicinity as an infected person, but not within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes. Continue coming to school. Self-monitor for symptoms.

Scenario 04
Student has close contact with someone who is symptomatic (not positive or presumptive)

COME TO SCHOOL
"Close contact" means someone was within 6 feet of a COVID-positive individual for 15 minutes or more. Self-monitor for symptoms and continue safe hygiene and PPE practices. If the original symptomatic person receives a positive result or is considered "presumed positive", follow the quarantine procedures outlined in Scenario #2.

Scenario 05
Student develops symptoms of COVID-19

STAY HOME / GO HOME
If symptoms develop while at home, stay home until symptom free for 24 hours without medication. If symptoms develop at school, isolate student and send home until symptom free for 24 hours without medication. If they later test positive for COVID-19, follow the quarantine procedures in Scenario #1.

IF A STUDENT TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19 OR IS UNDER QUARANTINE ORDERS, THEY CANNOT RETURN TO SCHOOL UNTIL CLEARED TO RETURN.
