Virtual Teacher Absences

We recognize that virtual teachers – just like their in-person counterparts – may occasionally need to take sick or personal days.

To prepare for this scenario, virtual teachers have prepared content and learning activities so that your child’s learning can continue.

Here’s what you can expect in the event a virtual teacher is absent:

  • Early Childhood and Elementary virtual students: Plan for up to 2 days of asynchronous learning for students in the form of recorded lessons and learning activities. Teachers also have the option to create substitute plans and request a substitute during this time. If the teacher must be absent for more than 2 days, a substitute will be assigned to the virtual classroom and will carry out the teacher’s instructions.

  • Middle School virtual students: Plan for up to 3 days of asynchronous learning for students in the form of recorded lessons and learning activities. Teachers also have the option to create substitute plans and request a substitute during this time. If the teacher must be absent for more than 3 days, a substitute will be assigned to the virtual classroom and will carry out the teacher’s instructions.

  • High School virtual students: Plan for up to 5 days of asynchronous learning for students in the form of recorded lessons and learning activities. Teachers also have the option to create substitute plans and request a substitute during this time. If the teacher must be absent for more than 5 days, a substitute will be assigned to the virtual classroom and will carry out the teacher’s instructions.
