Academics

The mission of FHSD is to empower students to be lifelong learners prepared for the future.  In an effort to make this mission a reality, the District is continually improving academic achievement at all levels. The District has embraced professional learning communities as a systematic process in which educators focus on and have a commitment to the learning of each student. Collaborative teams focus on four critical questions:

  • What is it we want our students to know and be able to do?
  • How will we know if each student has learned it?
  • How will we respond when some have not learned the material?
  • How will we respond when some have mastered the material?

These weekly collaborative meetings allow teams of teachers to maximize their collective efficacy while collaborating.

FHSD implements the Missouri Learning Standards through rigorous instruction and provides high levels of ongoing professional development for staff to ensure best practices are applied across the District. Annually, the District’s academic success is measured by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education through the Annual Performance Report (APR).  Francis Howell is proud to be among the top-rated school districts in the state of Missouri with five National Blue Ribbon schools.

Accreditation and Annual Performance Report

Under Missouri’s accreditation process, known as the Missouri School Improvement Plan (MSIP), school districts from across the state are provided an Annual Performance Report (APR). The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) annually collects and analyzes data for the performance standards as part of the accreditation process. The APR requires the District to meet a stringent set of academic requirements. View the District’s current Annual Performance Report on the DESE website.
