Kindergarten Enrichment

Program Description
The gifted department offers an enrichment program to Kindergarten students.  Working with the classroom teachers, the gifted education specialist identifies students who have already mastered basic Kindergarten skills using district assessments. This program is designed for Kindergarten students who show signs of advanced cognitive abilities in relation to their chronological peers.

Starting in the first quarter, the gifted education specialist will work with the Kindergarten teacher to identify characteristics of high ability students and look at assessment data through classroom visits.  Student referrals for the program are submitted at the end of first quarter.  The goal of the program is to provide students with enrichment activities that will challenge their thinking abilities and stimulate advanced problem-solving.

Students participate in the enrichment program for one quarter of the school year, meeting 45-60 minutes per week. There are six core instructional lessons that focus on critical thinking and creative thinking.

This program allows children in Kindergarten to have enrichment activities that will develop critical and creative thinking.  

  • Provide children with enrichment activities that challenge their intellect and creativity.
  • Assist Kindergarten teachers in recognizing and providing for high ability learners in the classroom.
