 | FHSD Students Compete at the Missouri SkillsUSA Conference ` Posted on 04/28/2017 Three Francis Howell School District (FHSD) high school students, representing Lewis & Clark Career Center at the SkillsUSA Missouri State Leadership and Skills Conference in Linn, Missouri from April 6-8, medaled in their respective competitions. Allison Mayfield from Francis Howell Central (FHC), a student in the Health Occupations program at Lewis & Clark, will move on to the national competition in Louisville, Kentucky in June after taking first place in the Basic Health Care competition. Gabe Freehill of Francis Howell North (FHN) earned a silver medal in the Construction Teamwork competition, and Kenysha Falls of FHN earned a bronze medal in the Medical Terminology competition.

 | FHN’s Jacob Lintner Named JEA Student Journalist of the Year for Missouri Posted on 04/18/2017 In Francis Howell School District (FHSD), we know where to find the news – from our outstanding journalism students. Francis Howell North (FHN) High School’s Jacob Lintner recently returned from the program’s latest conference with a special honor. Lintner was named the Journalism Education Association (JEA) Student Journalist of the Year for Missouri, and also finished as a runner-up in the national competition. It’s the culmination of an extraordinary high school career, as well as the continuation of an inspired legacy.

 | Music for All – FHSD Honor Band and Choir Performance Posted on 04/18/2017 Music is a global language. As the saying goes, “When words fail, music speaks,” and music spoke at the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) Middle School Honor Band and Choir Performance on March 30. The statement made was that nothing brings a community together like music.

 | A Show of Generosity – Warren Elementary PTO Donates Nearly $35,000 for Chromebook Carts Posted on 04/18/2017 Most of us have experienced periods where we must tighten our belts in order to afford the essentials. When that isn’t possible, it’s great to have a generous benefactor. Warren Elementary’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) recently stepped up to save the day, donating close to $35,000 in order to purchase necessary technology for the school and its students. The money was raised during the school year through a variety of fundraisers, including dine-and-donate events (at several local businesses), a color run, rummage sales, etc. The PTO built up a reserve during the year, in anticipation of one large donation instead of several smaller ones.

 | Forty Students to Represent FHSD at the DECA International Competition Posted on 04/11/2017 Forty students from the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) high schools will represent the District in the International DECA Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California, from April 26-29, 2017. This includes 23 students from Francis Howell High School (FHHS), 10 students from Francis Howell North (FHN), and 7 students from Francis Howell Central (FHC). DECA’s programs and activities develop skills for careers in marketing, hospitality, finance, and management for students in high schools and colleges worldwide.

 | FHSD Celebrates Innovation during National Library Week Posted on 04/10/2017 The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) celebrates National Library Week April 10 – 14, and library media specialists are celebrating by looking ahead, to see what innovations will benefit students in the future. The theme this year is “libraries transform,” and the District celebrates by recognizing how libraries have transformed over the years into Learning Commons (LC), to equip students with a more diverse set of skills in problem solving and technology.

 | FHSD Honors Seniors with a 4.0 and above Grade Point Average at Annual Luncheon Posted on 04/10/2017 |
 | MAP Testing Begins Posted on 04/10/2017 The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) testing for students in the Francis Howell School District will take place during the month of April. MAP tests are mandated by the state, and are intended to help determine what a child knows and is able to do according to the expectations for his or her grade level. Scores on the MAP tests are also used to determine how schools are performing according to state and federal guidelines.

 | 2017 Howell of Fame Recipients Announced Posted on 04/07/2017 The Francis Howell School District is excited to announce the recipients of the 2017 Howell of Fame Awards, which celebrate the outstanding achievements of volunteers and staff. This year’s 13 recipients will be honored at the annual Howell of Fame Awards ceremony on Monday, May 1, along with 2017 District Retirees, District Teacher of the Year, Teachers of the Year from each building, District Support Staff Employee of the Year, and Support Staff Employee of the Year from each building.

A great administrator builds upon students’ and teachers’ strengths, and helps them reach their fullest potential. A good administrator, as the St. Louis Association of Secondary School Principals (SASSP), recently verified, is Dr. Kirsteen James, assistant principal at Francis Howell Middle (FHMS) School. Dr. James was just named the SASSP Assistant Middle School Principal of the Year for 2017.

 | FHC Principal Dr. Sonny Arnel Named SASSP High School Principal of the Year Posted on 04/05/2017 Among the nearly 1,900 students and 180 staff members, there’s one smile that is always brighter than the others – that of Dr. Sonny Arnel. The Francis Howell Central (FHC) High School principal is known for his magnetic smile, but he’s also known for so much more – his compassion for students and staff, his attention to the improvement of his school, and his ability to motivate teachers and students to give their best. Because of these attributes, and perhaps also because of that smile, Dr. Arnel was recently named the St. Louis Association of Secondary School Principals (SASSP) High School Principal of the Year.
