Between preparing healthy food, adhering to strict nutrition
standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a
smile, Francis Howell School District (FHSD) nutrition employees have a lot on
their plate. To celebrate their hard work and commitment, FHSD schools will
celebrate School Nutrition Employee Week during May 1-5, 2017.
Serving more than 11,000
student meals each day, FHSD and our food service provider, Sodexo, have made a
commitment to preparing healthy school meals and promoting good nutrition
habits. Our schools provide students with quality food and nutrition knowledge,
skills, and the values they will need for a healthy body and healthy mind. For
many children, school lunch is the most important and nutrient-rich meal of
their day.
Our
school nutrition employees balance many roles and follow numerous federal,
state, and local regulations to ensure safe and healthy meals. In fact, federal
nutrition standards ensure that every school lunch offers students a
well-balanced meal offering low-fat or fat-free milk, fruits, vegetables, whole
grains, and lean protein. School meals must also meet limits on calories,
sodium, and unhealthy fats.
Thanks to the men and women who prepare and
serve school meals, so our children have the nutritious food they need to meet
their educational and physical potential.
