Thankful to Be Together – FHU’s Thanksgiving Luncheon

With the holidays approaching at an alarming speed, it reminds us all of the good things in life – such as family and fellowship. Francis Howell Union (FHU) High School takes the time every year to be thankful for what they have – especially for the fellowship they enjoy together as a school – by hosting a Thanksgiving luncheon.

Though many of us don’t have everything we want, Thanksgiving reminds us how much we truly have. If we are lucky, we have families that care for us. We have friends who make our lives more enjoyable. And we have teachers and staffers at schools who only want students to succeed. These are the sentiments that often get overlooked in our hectic lives, but it was not lost on the students and staff at FHU.

Principal Rob Gaugh knows just how much this day means to students and staff. “This is an important event,” Gaugh said, “because it allows our students, families, and staff members to build community and share fellowship.”

The students took the initiative to cook the meal for their guests, making it even more memorable. An aspiring chef, Austin Redman helped prepare the food for the feast. He said he started his day early to make sure the tasty food was ready for the hungry attendees, including several members of Francis Howell School District Administration and the Board of Education. “Getting together is awesome,” Redman said, “with everybody cooking the food and others helping out. It’s just great to be together like this.”

Counselor Lisha Ewing loves this event. “FHU Thanksgiving has been an amazing event for all who have experienced it,” Hayes said. “This fantastic feast is prepared by students and staff as a way to say thanks to all that serve them. All FHU students and their families are invited to attend and share in the ‘family’ experience of dining together and giving thanks. The community agencies, District Administration, Board of Education, facilities employees, and custodial staff are encouraged to celebrate with the students as a way for them to say thank you for supporting our school. We at FHU are thankful to be a part of sharing our amazing family with those that serve us! For some this may be the only Thanksgiving dinner they get to enjoy, but for all this is an opportunity for fellowship at Francis Howell Union.”
