Castlio students, and sisters, Nora Sage Spellman and Brielle
Spellman are great examples of compassion and dedication, and they help
prove that supporting a good cause is possible at any age.
The
two sisters were honored with the Good Citizenship Award last month,
after hosting a LemonAID stand fundraiser and collecting $1,545 to
support two special causes: The BackStoppers and Ballwin Officer Mike
Flamion.
It was a hot day in July, with temperatures over
100 degrees, but the Spellman sisters showed perseverance as they
attracted hundreds of people who came by to donate money in exchange for
a cool glass of lemonade.
As a special surprise, many
first responders from across the region, including the Cottleville
firefighters and Ballwin Chief of Police Kevin Scott, made an appearance
to show their support.
This great achievement didn’t go
unnoticed, and both 5-year-old Nora and 7-year-old Brielle were
recognized for their efforts with the Good Citizenship Award, presented
by the Cottleville Fire Protection District. The girls were also honored
with a check presentation ceremony by The BackStoppers and Fire Chief
Ron Battelle.
“It was a new, nervous experience for them
and they did very well,” said mother Cindy Spellman. “None of us ever
expected the attention from this and I hope with each experience, they
realize how neat it is to have ideas, see them through and help other
people.”
Castlio principal Dr. Bridgett Niedringhaus is
proud of Nora and Brielle and knows that the girls show great character
both in and out of school.
“Nora is energetic, loves
school and is a good friend to her classmates,” Niedringhaus said.
“Brielle is very thoughtful, always tries her best, and shows compassion
to others.”
FHSD congratulates these outstanding young women on their award!
