Between preparing healthy meals for students, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, school nutrition employees have a lot on their plate. During the School Nutrition Employee Week, April 30 – May 4, FHSD celebrates our school nutrition employees, who make a difference for every child that comes through the cafeteria.

Serving more than 11,000 meals each day, FHSD and our food service provider, Sodexo, have made a commitment to preparing healthy school meals and promoting good nutrition habits. Sodexo provides students with quality food and nutrition knowledge, skills, and the values they will need for a healthy mind and body. Our school nutrition employees balance many roles and follow numerous federal, state, and local regulations to ensure safe and healthy meals. In fact, federal nutrition standards ensure that every school lunch offers students a well-balanced meal offering low-fat or fat-free milk, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein. School meals must also meet limits on calories, sodium, and unhealthy fats.

Thanks to the men and women who prepare and serve school meals, our children have the nutritious food they need to be successful both in and outside the classroom.
