National School Social Work Week, March 2-6, 2020

During the week of March 2-6, 2020, the Francis Howell School District will celebrate our Educational Support Counselors (ESCs) in recognition of National School Social Work Week. This week highlights the tremendous impact school social workers, such as our ESC’s can have in helping students achieve school success.

“Our Educational Support Counselors address the needs of students by providing comprehensive mental health services that address the numerous barriers that interfere with their ability to succeed in school and community,” said Mental Health Coordinator Cherie Magueja. “They are skilled in providing services to students who face challenges, including poverty, discrimination, abuse, addiction, bullying, the loss of a loved one, and other barriers to learning.”

FHSD’s ESCs’ have expertise in many areas such as mental health prevention and intervention, human growth and behavior, how family dynamics affect student achievement, child abuse and neglect, chemical health, and community resources. Their counseling support is essential to a student’s ability to achieve success in school, both emotionally and academically.
