A healthy school breakfast sets students up for a day of learning and academic success. However, according to the Food Research and Action Council, only half of the children who eat lunch at school also eat school breakfast. In an effort to increase awareness of the School Breakfast Program, FHSD is celebrating National School Breakfast Week, March 2-6, 2020.

“A healthy breakfast at the start of the day is a great way to ensure students get the best education they can,” said Director of Finance and Nutrition Services Cindy Reilmann. “National School Breakfast Week helps us educate parents and students about all the healthy, great-tasting choices we offer.”

The District serves an average of 1,800 breakfast meals every day through the federally funded School Breakfast Program.
FHSD’s breakfast program offers students a nutritious breakfast they need to get them set for a busy school day. School nutrition professionals in FHSD prepare breakfast and lunches every day that meet federal nutrition standards – limiting fat, calories, and sodium – while encouraging students to choose from the fruits, vegetables, and whole grains offered with school meals.
