Chief Operating Officer Kevin Supple has served the Francis Howell School District for 17 years. Today, he announced his plan to retire, effective July 15, 2022.

Supple began his 44-year career in education in the maintenance department at University City School District in 1978, eventually serving the district as Coordinator of Business Services. In 1999, he took the role of Director of Accounting for the Special School District of St. Louis County. Supple assumed the Chief Financial Officer position for the School District of the City of Ladue in 2001. He came to Francis Howell in 2005, joining the executive leadership team as Chief Operating Officer (COO), a role he’s held for nearly two decades.

As COO, Supple is responsible for all non-instructional aspects of District operations, including development and management of the District’s $317 million budget and supervision of payroll, benefits and risk management functions for the District’s 2,200 employees. He also oversees the facilities and operations and technology departments, and is responsible for contracted food services.

Supple plays a critical role in managing the $244 million Prop S bond issue, overseeing new construction and renovation projects across the District. He brought positive changes to the District’s accounting and budget processes, earning Meritorious Budget Awards for the last 16 years. He also implemented GASB 45 accounting for post-retirement benefits and coordinated a state-wide RFP to secure the overall best cost for the GASB 45 actuarial valuation services.

Supple’s contributions to FHSD stretch beyond the financial realm. He has served as the chief spokesperson for the Board on teacher negotiations and coordinated the negotiations process for other employee groups. As an active member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet, his insights and perspectives have helped shape many decisions that have moved the District forward in positive ways.

“We are fortunate to have benefited from Kevin’s analytical and problem-solving skills for so many years,” said Dr. Nathan Hoven, Superintendent. “With more than 40 years of school district experience, he understands the academic as well as the financial side of education, helping to ensure students have the programs and resources they need, despite limited funding. We wish him well in his retirement.”

In 2007, Supple was named the Missouri School Business Official of the Year. In 2011, he was awarded the International Eagle Award by the Association of School Business Officials, International – the highest honor the organization bestows on its members.

Supple holds an MBA from Fontbonne University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Washington University.

In the coming weeks, the District will begin the search process to fill the vacancy that will be left when Supple retires. Interested applicants should check the District’s Online Job Site for the job posting next week.
