Francis Howell Central’s Scott Harris named Athletic Director of the Year

Scott Harris has been named the St. Louis Athletic Director of the Year by the Missouri Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

Harris has served the Francis Howell School District for over 13 years and has been Francis Howell Central’s director of activities and athletics since 2010. Prior to that, he was Winfield High School’s athletic director for three years. He taught special education at Fort Zumwalt West and Wentzville Timberland. Harris has coached basketball and softball for multiple school districts.

"Being recognized by your peers means so much. I am grateful to have been selected for this award. In a very time demanding job I’m fortunate to have a wonderful assistant, Annette Herdt, who goes above and beyond each and every day. I couldn’t do it all without her assistance." Harris said.

In addition to scheduling games and overseeing all of the clubs and activities, he schedules transportation for teams to get to and from their tournaments. The role of an activities director has evolved over the years. A large emphasis has been put on marketing. Not only marketing the high school’s programs to students, but the entire community.

"I have had the honor of knowing Coach Harris and his family for many years. His level of dedication and commitment to FHC students and the community separates him from others and contributes to the multiple reasons why he is so deserving of such recognition,” said FHC Principal Dr. Suzanne Leake. “Coach Harris is constantly looking for ways to celebrate kids and the adults who work with them. This includes not only coaches, sponsors and teachers, but officials too. He thinks of it all.”

Harris says his favorite part of the job is being able to watch the students grow, compete and excel in their activities. He is the father of two children in the Francis Howell School District. His son, Lane Harris, is a senior and is a pitcher on the Howell Central varsity baseball team. His daughter, Landry Harris, is a sophomore and pitches for the school’s varsity softball team.
