John Weldon Elementary School will be under new leadership for the 2022-23 school year.

Principal Mr. Bryan Howse took a leave of absence at the end of last school year. The Board of Education accepted Mr. Howse’s resignation last week. Today, we are excited to announce that Dr. Jacklyn Voelkl will serve as John Weldon’s interim principal for the 2022-2023 school year.
Dr. Voelkl served as the principal at St. Charles Borromeo for the last seven years. Prior to that, she was a teacher at Harvest Ridge – another elementary school in the Francis Howell School District – and a participant in the District’s “LEAP” program, which provides training for teachers who wish to transition to roles in administration. She earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from Maryville University in 2017.
Dr. Voelkl will be supported this school year by current assistant principal Joe Shaw and a new administrative intern, Mrs. Mallory Vorce. Mallory holds master’s degrees from Arkansas State University and Lindenwood University. Prior to Francis Howell, she taught in a St. Louis charter school. She has been serving the Independence Elementary community for the last 11 years, teaching third grade. She is also a participant in the LEAP program.
There will be opportunities for students and parents to meet Dr. Voelkl and Mrs. Vorce during back-to-school events.
The principal position will be posted late fall/early winter and the District will follow its normal selection and hiring process to find a permanent leader for John Weldon.
