Black History Month

FHSD students will participate in a variety of activities, lesson plans and research projects in honor of Black History Month this February. Throughout the month, an emphasis will be placed on educating students on the significant influence made by Black figures and the events of our country’s past.

Some of the many notable Black leaders students will learn about this month include:

  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Harriet Tubman
  • Rosa Parks
  • Jackie Robinson
  • Nelson Mandela

Conversation in our classrooms will center around the struggles these individuals overcame, their contributions to society and how they paved the way for equality in the United States and worldwide.

Students will also dive into historical topics ranging from the abolition of slavery to the civil rights movement and its legislation – as well as countless other historic events.

Follow along on the District’s social media this month as our students honor Black History Month in a range of creative, educational ways.
