The FHC Wind Ensemble has been selected by the Missouri Music Educators Association to perform at the annual state conference in January. This is one of the highest honors a Missouri high school band program can receive, similar to winning a state title in a team sport. Out of nearly 100 audition tapes, the Wind Ensemble was selected as one of only five high school concert bands to be represented at the conference.

“It truly is one of the highest recognitions a performing ensemble in the state of Missouri can earn,” said FHC Assistant Band Director Andrew Messerli. “The students have been working exceptionally hard and are looking forward to sharing with educators from across the state all the great things happening in the music program at Francis Howell Central. This recognition was a team effort, and I would be remiss if I didn't thank Nathan Griffin and Shannon Crepps. We have worked hard together to build a comprehensive band program, and their contributions have helped make this performance possible.”

This is the first time a concert ensemble from FHC has been selected to perform, and the first high school concert band from FHSD selected since 1975. FHC's Jazz Ensemble has also performed at this conference (2016), making FHC part of a small, elite group that has had recently had different instrumental ensembles from the same school perform. The FHC band program would also like to acknowledge the contributions of their alumni, who each year pushed the bands to higher and higher levels. A special thank you to the members of the class of 2019 who performed on the audition tape.
