Superintendent Update - Winter Break

December 22, 2020

Dear FHSD staff and families:

I want to provide a couple of updates for you as we head into a well-deserved Winter Break, which begins tomorrow, December 23.

SECOND SEMESTER BEGINS JANUARY 25, 2021

Please remember that second semester does not begin immediately after break. When students return to school on Monday, January 4, 2021, they will continue with first semester. Any switching from virtual to in-person, or vice-versa, will take effect on the first day of second semester, which is Monday, January 25, 2021.

COVID-19 CASES AND EXPOSURES DURING BREAK

Although FHSD will be out of session, it is very important that our schools continue to keep track of who is in quarantine due to testing positive or coming in close contact with COVID-19 throughout Winter Break. If you (staff) or your child (parents/guardians) tests positive for COVID-19 during Winter Break, please complete this formContact tracing, case documentation, and health department reporting will continue during break. Timely and thorough information regarding any positive cases will help us maintain accurate records and notify those impacted in a timely manner. We thank you in advance for your partnership in this process.

COVID-19 DASHBOARD
We recently expanded our COVID-19 reporting to include an accurate view of COVID-19 cases and exposures in each building. The dashboards are updated weekly when school is in session, and reflect all known active cases among FHSD students and staff. Both new cases and cases previously reported appear on the weekly dashboard until the individual is cleared to return to school/work. As always, parents/guardians will be notified directly if a positive case impacts your child. Families of close contacts will receive a phone call (standard quarantine) or email (modified quarantine) with more instructions. The next dashboard update will be Friday, January 8.

I’ll end by wishing you all a wonderful Winter Break. As we wrap up 2020, I can’t help but reflect on all the amazing efforts that brought us to this point. Thank you to the teachers, support staff and administrators who give their all each and every day to provide the best learning environment for students. Thank you to our families, who continue to support their children in their academic endeavors and set the right expectations regarding the District’s health and safety protocols.

However you choose to celebrate the winter holidays, please continue to do the things that matter: Avoid large gatherings, stay home when sick, wear a mask, physically distance, and wash your hands.

We look forward to seeing our students back in virtual and physical classrooms in 2021. Look for another update from me in early January.
