Student Spotlight – Grant Argent of FHN

Grant Argent is a Renaissance Man. If you were asked what makes a student stand out among their peers, you might mention these: an academic achiever, National Honor Society member, a successful athlete, a band virtuoso, or maybe a published writer. Grant Argent is all of these. That’s why he’s the perfect choice to represent FHN students at the monthly Francis Howell School District Board of Education Meeting.

FHN Principal Andy Downs didn’t have to think long when asked about Argent. If anything, Downs had a hard time condensing the student’s list of gifts and accomplishments. “Grant is just an awesome student,” Downs finally settled on. “He is an exceptional student and musician. He has played the guitar with Grammy award-winning artists, and he has been published in a magazine. Despite all of those accomplishments, he still finds time to be dedicated to improving his school and his community.”

Let’s roll through some of his accolades. Argent’s GPA is 4.58, even though he is in six AP Honors classes, and he is ranked in the top 5 percent of his class (Class of 2018). He’s a member of the Student Activity Leadership Council at FHN and a former Vice President of the National Honor Society. He has put all of that leadership experience to good use and has served as an FHN Mentor for the past two years.

Argent is also a fantastic athlete, playing on the varsity teams of two sports – soccer and volleyball. With a ball, he can make things happen. And with a pen, he can inspire. Argent’s work was published in a magazine (Adoption World). He was adopted by Guy and Kathy Argent, who took Grant to South Korea over the summer, to learn more about the culture and meet his birth father. You can read more about that on the FHN student-run newsmagazine website,

If there is one thing that truly sets Argent apart, it’s his musical talents. Already a professional musician in high school, he has opened a show … for a Grammy-winning artist. Argent opened for the renowned Grammy-winning sax player Eric Merienthal and jazz pianist Michael Silverman, which you can also read about on

Argent’s accomplishments are many, and a Grammy may be in the future. He’s been part of the Honors Jazz Band for four years, a member of the Honors Symphonic Band, and placed in the top three of the Missouri Jazz All-State Band in his junior and sophomore years. Playing lead and rhythm guitar, bass guitar, and percussion, Argent spends his Sundays in the Worship Band for the First Baptist Church of Harvester, as well as acting as a Worship Leader there.

The renaissance (young) man has been receiving scholarship offers from many schools and has yet to decide. But one thing is for sure – wherever he goes, the sounds of success … and beautiful music … will follow him.
